Accredited as the 'Switzerland of India', Manipur positions itself in the slopes of the south flowing Sub-Himalayan ranges in the north-east corner of the country. Bounded by Nagaland in the north, Mizoram in the South and Assam in the West, the land also shares its border with Upper Burma in East. War Cemeteries

Situated about 10 km from the city, the war cemeteries are a well-known name in the list of tourist attractions in Manipur. The area houses graves of numerous soldiers, marked with small stone and bronze plaques. The cemetery is an endeavour to honour hoards of people who sacrificed their lives during the Second World War.

Shree Govindajee Temple

This religious site is among the prominent temples of the state that showcases the rich culture of Manipur. Dedicated to Shree Govindajee, the temple lies around one km away from Imphal. Built by King Churachand, the temple is constructed on an imposing pattern. The compound of this sacred site can be classified into two sections, the internal sanctum and the outer chamber. One section of the temple houses miniature shrines, which are known as “Salas”. The statue of Lord Govindajee is fixed in the centre of the temple.

Various other statues include the idols of Jagannath, Balaram, Subhadra and Krishna in the northern as well as southern chambers. The vibrant images of Balaram and Krishna are made up of plaster. Other statues are made of wood. The temple follows Nagara architectural style.

Keibul Lamjao National Park

You can visit to Keibul Lamjao National Park with Manipur Wildlife tour. Lying 53 km from Imphal, this national park is on the edges of Loktak Lake. The park boasts of being the only floating national park in the World. It also serves as the last natural habitat of “Sangai”, which is the dancing deer of the place. A glance of the deer in this rare wetland ecosystem is a must for any wildlife lover. Other species of wildlife include Otter, Hog Deer, Water Fowls and Migratory birds, which you can spot during November to March.

Moirang

This wonderful site holds an old temple of the pre-Hindu deity, Lord Thangjing and is among popular tourist places in Manipur. Beautifully attired in traditional outfits, people sing and dance in honour of the Lord. It also serves as among the important centres of Meitei folk culture with ancient temple of the pre-Hindu deity Lord Thangjinga. The town also holds a special place in the history of the freedom struggle of India.
